Testimonial Email

Hi Folks,

Here's a testimonial email I received this morning regarding Adam's trip here this week:

Just got back from Winifred Lake Lodge (6th time). Lots of fish this year and more biggens than usual. Last year we went and only managed to land 2 over 100cm while still catching tons of 8-12lb fish. This year the numbers were awesome! On the last day one boat in our group with 2 guys had landed 110 fish by our 6pm supper. That included them coming in for lunch at noon and heading back out at 1pm! More to the point I used my fly rod a fair amount so my numbers were less (only 38 on my last day). But I tell ya! Catching two 12lb and one 15 lb+ 40" on the fly was awesome! My 9wt was just the ticket. Using a sink tip line and a big red/white streamer with the "toothy critter" 15lb leader with stainless steel tip.

The pic is of the 15 lb 40" . Don't worry about my handling skills. I was under strict orders from my mother in law to bring home a big jack and this is the one.

Carol and her crew run an awesome lodge with a lake that is just teaming with trophy pike and walleye. Out of the estimated 1000 fish caught by our 15 man group in 3 days we had 22 that were over 100 cm, only two were not released. My 15lb and another 22lb jack made it to the dinner table to be enjoyed by many.

Tight lines,

Adam Flight

June Fishing

Hi Everyone,

Okay, Okay! We had more than our fair share of rain and wind for June 2013! Looks like the worst is over with, at least for now.

The road is rough but since we've had a week or so of dry weather, it's hardened up nicely. There are still a couple of wet spots so take your time through them...they have a hard bottom. All in all, we fared better than the folks in Fort McMurray and more recently Canmore and Calgary. Our thoughts are with you all. Keep safe folks!

Smiles were plentiful for the guys in the Pike Group that visited us recently, especially for Sean and his 24 lb northern. What a brut!

 A beautiful Walleye!

 And another!

And even another!

Brian Allan's group also put another trip in the history books recently.

I like to call this pic, "The long and the short of it".

But then again, there's always redemption for Ben...

 another righteous pike for Brian...

and a great looking hog for Rylan as well. Way to go guys!

New pics, late May 2013

Hi Everyone,

I'm still waiting for new pics from recent guests but I thought I'd post the ones I already have.

I had a couple of last minute cancellations for the June 7 weekend. If you are still looking for a June trip, give me a call. They won't last long!

Adam and a beautiful pike!

May Long Weekend 2013

Hi Everyone,

It's official...the ice is gone from the lake. There's still a little hung up on the shores but the water is completely free.

The road is in good shape. We've had very little rain, it's been graded and there's just a couple of puddles that will not cause any problems if you're driving a 4X4.

Here are some pics from the May long-weekend 2013:

Season Opening May 17, 2013

Well Folks,

We made it! It's season opening and some very happy returning guests have made it back. We also have some first-timers this weekend and we are sure everyone will have a great time.

The ice is just about gone from the south end of the lake with lots of open water. We are asking everyone to steer well clear of the ice while it's there. It should be completely gone over the next day or so.

Here's a shot of the dock taken this afternoon.

Ice-out May 16, 2013

Hi Folks,

Here is today's pic of the lake. Sorry it's so late. We are doing all the fine tuning and getting things just right for tomorrow's season opening of the lodge!

It seems there's still quite a bit of ice out there. We are hoping it will be gone over the next day or two. As long as our bay stays ice-free, we shouldn't have any problems getting boats out for fishing.

Looks like the temperatures will be between 19 and 22 degrees celsius for the weekend. The winds will be light at 10-15 kms per hour. Looks like a great May long weekend is approaching!

Here's a couple of pics of some staff who were fishing on the dock last evening after work.

This is Tegan with a lovely pike! This was the catch of the day. We know it won't be long before we see lots of monster pike that will make this one look like a minnow. Still great job bringing this fighter in by yourself Tegan! Way to go!

And one of Tony, who thought we were telling him a bunch of tall fishing tales about the legendary Winefred fishing! I think he's now a believer!

Ice-out May 15, 2013

Hi Folks,

Sorry I missed yesterday's pic. The day just seemed to get away from me.

We are having  22 km/hr winds from the west with 21 degrees celsius today. The ice is continuing to melt and has moved beyond the point in our bay.

Since today is the season opening for the lake, I think I'll throw in a line from the dock this evening to check it out. Can't wait!

Ice-out May 13, 2013

OK Folks!

We are well on our way! The lake has broken and now it's just a matter of movement and temperatures to break it all down. We are expecting the lake to be ice-free by Friday.

Today's pic looks like there's lots of ice but we have had some northwest wind over night that is now westerly about 20 kms/hr. It is currently overcast but we expect some sun throughout the day with a high of 21 celsius. Should make for some good ice-melting conditions!

Ice-out May 12, 2013

Hi Everyone,

I heard from a little bird in Conklin that Christina Lake broke last night. Winefred Lake is usually 5-7 days after that. With the forecasted temperatures all 18 and above, together with winds changing from South to Northwest to West winds between 10-20 over the next 5-7 days, we should be able to get boats on the lake for season opening on Friday May 17.

Here are today's pics at the dock. Currently 19 degrees and SW15 kms winds.

East from the dock The shoreline is free and ice is thin.

West from the dock. Still some ice in the bay.

Ice-out Coming Soon!

Hi Everyone,

Well, it certainly has been a long spring but we are finally on our way! Staff are all on-site and working hard to get the place ready for the first guests of the 2013 season.

I will add the update picture of the dock to this blog daily. Check back to see how the next week or so works out.

We were thinking we might see our latest ice-out in five seasons. But I think we saw a later spring in 2009 than this year will be. We are expecting temperatures between 15-27 degrees over the next 4-5 days with winds ranging from 10-20 kms/hr and changing direction each day. This is what we've been hoping for, so keep your fingers crossed everyone!

Here's how the lake looked earlier today!

It sure has been a slow process though.
See my pics below that were taken from May 1, 2013 to May 10, 2013.
